Project Background
This project is located in Ningbo Mixc. Ningbo, abbreviated as Yong, is a typical water town in the south of the Yangtze River and a seaport city. It acts as the estuary of the Grand Canal in southern China and the eastern departure port of the “Maritime Silk Road”.
In the 14th year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1381 AD), to avoid the taboo of the national title, Zhu Yuanzhang adopted the suggestion of Shan Zhongyou, a scholar from Yin County, and adopted the meaning of “When the sea is calm, the waves are peaceful”, renaming Mingzhou Prefecture as Ningbo Prefecture. The name Ningbo has remained in use ever since.
Ningbo is also the birthplace of the MODE COMMUTER brand. Integrating the local culture and interpreting the spirit of the city constitute the core of the design for this project.

Extraction of cultural elements
Bamboo, acting as the bones, is tough and powerful, manifesting the unyielding spirit of the people of Ningbo. Meanwhile, the white canvas is like the tender embrace of skin, signifying the openness and inclusiveness of the seaport city of Ningbo. The interweaving of bamboo and white canvas is just like the bamboo rafts and sails on the river, mutually enhancing each other’s radiance and constituting a unique scene of the convergence of rivers and the sea that is characteristic of Ningbo.
