Beppu City, Oita Prefecture has the highest yield of hot spring water in Japan. This resort juts out of the trees on a low hill there. From the lobby and the open-air bath, one can gaze upon Beppu Bay and the steam rising from the town. This is a new type of resort in Japan – a spa resort not seen even in other countries. We sought to create a design only possible here, by melding traditional Beppu hot spring culture and international resort, while sprinkling aspects of traditional materials, crafts, and techniques from Japan and Oita Prefecture.
公共区域是将森林作为主题，穿过林间树丛，各种各样的景色空间随即映入眼帘。为了使之景致变幻多姿，将个性化空间拓展开来。随处都配置了以大分县为首的日本匠人制作的竹艺术，竹工艺，小鹿田烧等等，是以运用传统手法的同时又表现出新的尝试。浴池有野趣盎然的石制挂汤，有由柏树作为边界分割而成的景色，形成令人印象深刻的空间，也有寄身于许多“伞子”下与洋溢着能量的岩石组合的露天浴池等。我们希望客人光临至此，感受到自然的气息，工艺，匠人的技艺，成为养精蓄锐之所。
The public area is themed “forest,” where passing through the trees reveals many changing scenes, each its own distinct space. Bamboo art and bamboo work, Ontayaki and other craftwork created by artists from all around Japan, including Oita, are distributed around the interior as new challenges made with traditional methods. In the baths, the washing area is decorated with rustic things such as stone statues, and one can experience a memorable slice of scenery framed by Japanese cypress, and the open-air bath overflowing with energy, made from large stones and positioned under many “umbrellas.” We hope that the customers who visit this spa experience the natural breath of nature, the skill of the craftsmen, and gain energy.
