WUYUCHA is more than a cozy tea space for leisure and socializing; it is an eastern aesthetic vessel embodying the owner’s life taste and spiritual pursuits. Its core essence is encapsulated in the concise founding philosophy: “Seeking tea, seeking objects, seeking peace of mind”. Amid curling tea steam, one finds a cup of fine tea that purifies the soul; in the elegant flow of tea ware, one discovers a cherished piece that touches the heart; and beyond the hustle and bustle of the world, one secures a peaceful haven to settle both body and mind.

Design Concept

The spatial design centers on an elderly lady’s tea house operation, rooted in the profound heritage of traditional Chinese tea culture. It encompasses aesthetically diverse tea ware, soul-stirring teas, and tea lovers from all walks of life. Centering on “tea, utensils, people, and culture” integrated with contemporary lifestyles, the design connects “color, materials, light, and feng shui” along with natural elements, translating all these connotations into spatial function planning and ambient atmosphere creation. Ultimately, it crafts a contemporary oriental tea space that embodies a perfect blend of comfort, relaxation, and tranquility.

Building Facade

First catching the eye is the black bamboo curtain that embodies profound oriental charm, hanging at the entrance of the building. It sways gently with the wind, keeping out the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Meanwhile, natural light filters through the gaps of the curtain, casting dappled light and shadows on the ground that shift and change as time passes.

Open Tea Area

Stepping into the space, a striking interplay of textures and fusion of tactile qualities greets you instantly. The warm black stone, with its natural delicate luster, quietly holds the amber hue of the tea soup, softening the stone’s inherent coldness and rigidity. The rough solid wood cabinets, preserving the knots and grains of the timber, store a wide array of tea ware and teas—each grain a precious gift from nature. The exposed concrete and red bricks, carrying a raw, unrefined texture, embody an aesthetic pursuit of returning to simplicity, endowing the space with a sense of casualness and sincerity.

Naturally growing green plants climb up the corners and adorn the tables, infusing the space with vivid vitality. The handcrafted solid wood flooring offers a warm texture and subtle elasticity underfoot, providing a steady and reassuring feel with every step. Sleek black steel plates, decorated with sharp, cool lines, strike an exquisite balance with the warmth of the wood. The traditional Chinese benches, featuring simple and unadorned lines, ensure a comfortable seating experience. Mirrors are cleverly used to borrow scenery, enhancing the space’s visual transparency—reflecting the figures of tea drinkers and the greenery of plants, blurring the boundary between reality and illusion. Every piece, from the solid wood tables and vintage lanterns to the tinkling wind chimes, exudes a unique warmth. The soft glow of the spherical lamps chases away the chill of night, while the gentle jingle of wind chimes echoes the quiet murmur of tea brewing.
